Sundance 2022: 20 Films You Need To Know About

12. When You Finish Saving The World

Jesse Eisenberg makes an impressive directorial debut with this indie dramedy based on his own audio drama of the same name.

When You Finish Saving The World stars Finn Wolfhard as high-schooler Ziggy, whose aspirations to become a popular folk-rock singer clash with the nobler work of his mother Evelyn (Julianne Moore), who runs a shelter for domestic abuse survivors.

On paper it might sound like a very typically Sundance-y indie film, but courtesy of Eisenberg's emotionally perceptive writing and direction, and outstanding work from both Wolfhard and Moore, this family drama isn't easily shaken.

In a career full of excellent performances, Moore gives one of her recent best, while Eisenberg makes a smooth transition from actor to filmmaker.
