Sylvester Stallone's 15 Biggest Movies - Ranked Worst To Best
13. The Expendables 3 (2014)
To say that fan expectations had been high with the Expendables series is putting it mildly - so it was quite a bitter sting when all three films turned out largely underwhelming. But this third instalment is surely the worst of the lot, and it really is disheartening to see how a format with such potential went stale almost immediately. It's the same old routine as the previous films; a pantomime villain, this time played by Mel Gibson, hatches a not especially interesting evil scheme, and Stallone, Statham and co must crack wise and blow things up to save the day. I know, I can't understand how something which sounds so fun winds up so dull either. The addition of Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and (in her first major role) Ronda Rousey to the ensemble, plus cameo from Harrison Ford cameo, does little to freshen things up. Of course, The Expendables 3's biggest misstep was toning things down for a PG-13 rating. I mean, really. If these guys can't drop F-bombs and splatter brains, they've lost half their reason to exist. "Fans" of the series agreed, and the film wound up the lowest grossing of the trilogy at $206.2 million worldwide, though this was still enough to make it Stallone's 6th biggest hit.
