Terminator: Genesis - 10 Things You Need To Know

6. Game Of Throne's Alan Taylor Is Directing

Fresh off of his work on Games of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World, Alan Taylor has been designated as director-to-be on Terminator: Genesis, which pretty much ensures a movie of the "factory" variety. Taylor has proved himself a competent filmmaker, of course, but that's about it - his work on Game of Thrones is good, but given the restraints and scheduling associated with TV, is also fairly generic and standardised (as most TV direction is). Thor: The Dark World, on the other hand, felt like it had the poor guy strapped to a chain being held by Kevin Fiege. What we could be looking at, then, is another franchise movie that lacks directional innovation or ambition - a movie lacking any sort of "distinct" style, guided by a director who has been hired purposely because he doesn't veer off course, has proven himself capable with deadlines, and has little to no ego. You could do worse than Alan Taylor, of course, given that - despite the non-distinctive nature of his direction - he's yet to produce anything of lacking quality. Hopefully this time around he'll have the opportunity to drive the car, and won't be forced to ride shotgun.
