The Avengers Vs. Avengers: Infinity War - Which Is Better?
7. Visuals
As fantastic as The Avengers is, it's a bit of a disappointment as a visual package. For starters, Seamus McGarvey's cinematography is extremely bland, full of dull grey colours and rarely capturing the event movie feel it absolutely should.
Combined with Whedon's direction, it too often feels like a high-budget TV show. The visual effects have aged relatively well, though the Chitauri are pretty drab-looking.
Infinity War has an obvious edge visual effects-wise being a brand new release, but even ignoring the fidelity of the CGI itself, the effects are employed to a far more intriguing end, rendering the tricky antagonist in all of his larger-than-life glory. Considering how awkward it can be to make a performance-capture villain work - looking at you, Justice League - they absolutely nailed it.
The movie's trippy, Infinity Stone-influenced shenanigans also lend it an added visual zing, and the cinematography is certainly above-average for the standards of the MCU.
Winner: Infinity War and it's not even close.
