The Community Movie: 10 Things We Want To See
6. Musical Sequences
Not everybody likes musicals, but almost every TV show does them. Whenever a series goes on for a long time, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be an episode with shoe-horned musical sequences, often turning them into skippable outings. That said, Community is one of those rare shows where the episodes with singing, dancing and jazz hands are welcome experiences.
The opening song to season three, Abed and Troy singing "somewhere out there", and Regional Holiday Music are all absolute highlights of the show. Hell, even the terrible puppet episode has some banging songs. This sitcom was really good with its musical moments, which is why the movie needs to have some.
Movies made from TV shows need to make an effort to be as big and cinematic as possible to differentiate between the film and the series. One way to do this is to go down the musical route, something that worked really well for South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
The Community movie doesn't need to be a full-on musical, but having a sequence or two in there would be a delightful treat and a way to up the cinematic value of the flick.
