The Dark Knight Rises: 10 Questions We Still Want Answered

8. Who Teaches Assault Tactics To Gotham PD?

€œHey, everyone, there's a problem underground €“ let's ALL go down there, apart from Mathew Modine and that Hot Headed Rookie who has so far been spot on about everything...€ I mean, why would any police force leave an auxillary force on the surface as back-up, or to like keep an eye on what's happening on the surface? Clearly, logic dictates that they would instead all charge underground like kids on the last day of term, super-excited to kick some enemy tail. You have to seriously wonder what kind of training Gotham PD recruits go through before being handed their badges and guns and told to guard the precious lives of Gotham. I know it's peace-time and everyone has very little to be concerned with as all of the criminal have gone underground (figuratively and literally as it turns out), but those police are pretty much idiots. They prove it further during the Taking Back Gotham finale when they meet the appearance of a couple of tanks with a battle cry and a suicidal dash into the fray, regardless of the superior fire-power of their opponents. Of course it's a touching moment, showing the tragic willingness of Gotham's finest to lay down their lives to help Batman bring down Bane's forces, but there is clearly a more sensible tactical opportunity than playing cannon fodder. But then it doesn't really matter anyway because those tanks and massive heavy artillery are super ineffective against running humans, as evidenced by the fact that about four of the police are killed before they over-run everything.
