The Dark Knight Rises: How Many Oscars Will It Win?

Best Sound Editing

Chance of a nomination = 10/10 Chance of a win = 8/10 A sure bet for Rises' Oscar glory, Richard King's previous work for Christopher Nolan has been rewarded twice (The Dark Knight, Inception), and it is always a category that summer blockbusters tend to perform well in. It will face competition from Joss Whedon's The Avengers, but this film's more grounded sound work, combined with memorable sound effects - especially from Batman's various vehicles - are likely to make it the victor in this category.

Best Sound Mixing

Chance of a nomination = 9/10 Chance of a win = 6/10 Though The Dark Knight scooped the Sound Editing Oscar, it missed out on Sound Mixing, quite possibly caused by complaints that the theatrical exhibition of the film resulted in dialogue often being drowned out by Hans Zimmer's bombastic score, a problem that has also plagued Rises (even if this owes more to incorrect sound levels of each individual cinema rather than the mix itself). Furthermore, the controversy surrounding Bane's voice will likely reflect unfavourably upon the quality of the final mix. Again it will face competition from the year's other spectacular superhero film, but will additionally face off against Les Miserables with its combination of singing, music and dialogue.
