The Fast & The Furious: Ranking Every Movie From Worst To Best

3. Fate Of The Furious (2017)

The Fate Of The Furious is the most mad-cap of all of the Fast & Furious movies, which is saying a lot. Its action sequences are the most silly, but they're also among the most gripping; the comedy works exceptionally well (mostly because of Roman Pearce being a goofball); and the story is compelling.

It sags slightly between the opening, Cuban-set prologue (which feels like another film entirely) and its German pay-off and the mid-point, and there are some iffy moments (like Helen Mirren's hilariously awful cameo), but it is the very definition of an undemanding popcorn blockbuster.

It wrestles with emotion, introducing Dom's long-lost son (and unceremoniously booting his mother off this mortal coil), and the family symbolism is a little heavy-handed, but there's enough fun and bluster in there to balance it.

Special mention really has to go to the sequence that sees Jason Statham fight his way through a plane full of villains carrying a baby carrier with Dom's son Brian within (listening to a Chipmunks song). It is stunningly choreographed but also the most ridiculous thing you'll ever see, and I can't, in good faith, say I've seen any better action sequence recently. If ever.
