15 Greatest Character Names In American Film History

8. Vince Majestyk ("Mr. Majestyk")

Charles Bronson's name has always been synonymous with the concept of the hard man. And for a good reason: He did look extremely rugged (or as he, himself, once put it: "I guess I look like a rock quarry that someone has dynamited"). Like his sometime co-star Steve McQueen, people also tended to look pass Bronson's considerable acting skills. Charles Bronson made his name with films such as "The Great Escape", "The Dirty Dozen", "Once Upon A Time in the West", "The Mechanic", "Death Wish", and the Tarantino-favourite "Mr. Majestyk". The Elmore Leonard-written "Mr. Majestyk" follows the titular character (portrayed by Bronson); a Vietnam-vet now occupied with overseeing his own watermelon farm in Colorado. The mob unsuccesfully tries to force Majestyk into employing cheap labour, but his refusal ignites a war between him and these representatives of organized crime. I need not explain what happens next, except paraphrase the film's well formulated tagline: "Organized crime has met its match". Once again we are treated with a character name that just doesn't sound credible at all. But with a little suspension of belief, the name Vince Majestyk appears truly magnificent.
