The Illuminati In MCU Explained - What To Expect!

1. What Is The Illuminati's Role?

"Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished."

That's a line spouted by Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo during this latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

From what we've seen so far, it appears his meddling with the multiverse has had Strange taken to the Illuminati. The larger question is, will this group be friends or foes of the Master of the Mystic Arts?

Some believe that the MCU Illuminati is made up of heroes from multiple dimensions. Others believe that the group will be the villains of the film, driven forward by an erratic, all-powerful Tom Cruise version of Iron Man. And then there are those who think the Illuminati will be there to help Doctor Strange stop a certain other threat.

Depending on what you believe, one rumour is that the other threat in question is actually Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff. This is purely speculation right now, but some purported 'leakers' claim that Scarlet Witch is the main villain of this Doctor Strange sequel, with her scouring the multiverse to be reunited with Vision and her two sons - and the Illuminati come to Strange's assistance to help stop Wanda.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen the exact role of the Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness and the greater MCU moving forward, and it also remains to be seen which members will make up this cinematic take on the group. Of course, all questions will be answered when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness makes its way to the silver screen from 6 May.
