Thor: Ragnarok - 10 Big Implications Of Marvel Adding Hulk

4. An Introduction To The Defenders

The other big part of the announcement that Hulk is going to be part of Ragnarok is that Marvel also plan to add superheroine Valkyrie into the mix. The suspicion from Birth Movies Death is that she might be being introduced as part of the group of mythological figures who shepherd dead Norse Gods to Valhalla (an important part of Ragnarok, after all) - though she'd bring together a whole group into one body, presumably. It would make sense that Marvel were eyeing the superheroine as opposed to the Valkyries as a group in light of Hulk being involved too, as one iteration of the character clashed with him in the comics. That would be another way to add relevance to Hulk's sudden sojourn to space. But, Valkyrie is also a bridge character in the Marvel universe. Not only has she hung out with Doctor Strange and fought Enchantress (the hot rumour for one of the secondary villains in Ragnarok), but she was also a longtime member of The Defenders, who are currently being built with the Netflix Marvel shows. Could she be introduced as a character who would step out of the MCU to The Defenders when that eventually lands as an ensemble event? It would be rather wonderful to see a Marvel/Norse character in the same R-Rated universe as Daredevil and Punisher.
