Thor Ragnarok: 10 Big Questions From What We Know So Far

3. Is Jane Foster Going To Die?

If the Thor solo franchise is destined to end with Ragnarok, there€™s one big loose end that needs tying up €“ Jane Foster, the Earthly girlfriend to Thor played by Natalie Portman. Thor: The Dark World teased the idea of killing her (that€™s how many interpreted the trailer shot above), but ultimately receded and gave her a snog-filled happy ending instead. There€™s no reason that Ragnarok needs to be so kind, especially if Portman is only on a three-film contract (the exact details of her contract aren€™t public, but, as a comparison, it€™s known that Gwyneth Paltrow only signed on for three solo Iron Man films). Portman was vocally unhappy when female director Patty Jenkins was fired from The Dark World, so it€™s hard to see her signing up for any more Marvel movies. She probably doesn€™t need the money, either. Perhaps, then, to tie in with the fact that Portman€™s contract and the solo Thor franchise might both be ending, Jane Foster will be killed off during Ragnarok. Maybe she will try to help out her boyfriend once more, but find herself in too deep and surrounded by powerful villains. It€™d certainly help raise the stakes, even though some corners might criticise such a decision as €˜fridging.€™
