Thor: Ragnarok - 10 WTF Comic Moments You Definitely Won't See
7. Thor's Clone Is A Crazy Murder Robot
By the time the first Civil War rolled around, Thor had put in enough superheroing hours to earn some holiday time. That is to say, he was dead. Not that something so trivial would keep him out of the event though.
As part of his efforts to stop Captain America and his anti-registration rebels, Tony Stark decided to build his own Thor. Tony, Reed Richards and Hank Pym worked together to build a cyborg version of the God of Thunder, one that could mimic the powers of the original.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances (later revealed to be deliberate sabotage by a Skrull), the Thor clone wasn't stable. During its first battle, it malfunctioned and murdered the superhero Goliath. It was an iconic and controversial scene in the comic, marking it as much darker than anything Marvel had done before.
The Thor Clone was destroyed at the end of the event by Hercules, but was later rebuilt. Calling itself Ragnarok, the clone wreaked havoc until it was destroyed again by the real Thor (who had recovered from his nasty case of death). However, just like its inspiration, it came back again. Ragnarok was rebuilt by Norman Osborn to join a new version of his Dark Avengers.
