Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Reactions: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

3. "He's A Friend From Work"

Thor Ragnarok Trailer

Best line of comic book movies in 2017 already confirmed?

Taika Waititi is absolutely all over this trailer, which is a very good thing: when he was hired, one of the biggest selling points was how personal his film-making is - and how expressive of his personality. Who else would have Thor refer to being an Avenger as "work" and who else would start the trailer for the third movie of a sub-series of a mega-franchise with an established tone with what amounts to a Record scratch/freeze frame opening? It's brilliantly ludicrous.

Waititi is easily one of the most idiosyncratic and recognisable directors currently working, and while there may have been some fear that his style would be swallowed up by the more homogenous MCU juggernaut, that absolutely does not appear to be the case.

That "I know him from work" line also ties in quite gorgeously to him telling his house-mate Daryl (from Waititi's excellent post-Civil War shorts) that his job is saving the universe. It's actually quite surprising just how much of the spirit of those comedic shorts comes through here...
