5. A Badass Female Lead (Again)

Now, it's a little unfortunate that Jesse is basically now just another sidekick tasked with reacting to whatever is happening to other people, but her initial status as the first sequel's new badass female lead was a great move for the franchise. She might have ended up with Buzz, but she wasn't there as a romantic interest at all (and really, she took the lead on their romance) and had her own real backstory.

Very few other female characters have had that treatment in Toy Story movies to date, because there simply aren't all that many female toys in the main cast for some reason. The addition of Bonnie in place of Andy was a smart move in that respect, but having someone who could look like an actual lead is a big deal.

While it looks like she might be headed to the familiar waters of being the villain (and possibly not even the real Bo Peep), it's good to see Bo being elevated here.
