Toy Story 4 Trailer Reactions: 9 Ups & 3 Downs

4. It Does Connect To Other Ideas

A lot of the complaints about Toy Story 4 existing at all centred on complaints about over-extension and the fact that the trilogy was so perfectly self-contained as it was. Woody and Buzz's story looked like it was done when Andy moved on and they were passed on to Bonnie.

Admittedly, ending it there wouldn't have been the worst decision. We could have all slept on that. But equally, the whole point of the end of Toy Story 3 is that the toys' lives are not over simply because Andy has moved on. Not giving them another story would have been in defiance of that message, surely?

And more importantly, the trailer confirms that this film WILL tie back to ideas that we've already seen in Toy Story, even with complaints of that story being completed. Chiefly, the question of a toy not wanting to be a toy. That was something we saw introduced in Toy Story 2 with Stinky Pete the Prospector, whose ideal existence was to never, ever be played with. Surely, the idea of a toy not wanting that is a big enough idea
