Uma Thurman: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Edie Athens - Be Cool

A movie that promised much and delivered very little. John Travolta returned to the role of Chilli Palmer that he played so well in Get Shorty and he was reunited with Uma and Harvey Keitel from Pulp Fiction. All signs pointed to greatness. The trouble is there is a big difference between a movie that€™s cool and one that€™s massively lazy. Be Cool tries so hard to be hip yet everything falls flat; the comedy, the music and most importantly of all, the acting. Uma plays the ditzy love interest of Chilli and whatever chemistry she and Travolta shared in Pulp Fiction has disappeared. The dance scene they share here - which is set to the sultry tones of the Black Eyed Peas - has all the sexual tension of a dance off in a bingo hall. For the role she€™s not required to do much more than be window dressing for Travolta, who even then was making his transition from coolest actor alive to creepy man in a dodgy wig. Be Cool was an important lesson for Uma; don't attempt a Pulp Fiction style movie without Tarantino's involvement.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
