Zach Cregger's Weapons is one of the most successful and instantly iconic horror films of the last few years, and it didn't take long for Cregger to reveal that he was considering another film set within the Weapons universe.
In April 2026, it was confirmed that a prequel centered around the film's villain, Gladys - played with Oscar-winning brilliance by Amy Madigan - was in the works, with Cregger set to develop the story to be scripted by Zach Shields (Krampus, Godzilla: King of the Monsters), for a September 8, 2028 release.
But, as with Longlegs 2, there are many Weapons fans anxious that learning more about Gladys is only going to undermine the original film, and the fact that Cregger is neither writing nor directing, and writer Shields' credits are a mixed bag at best, gives even more pause.
Some stories are best left as one-offs, and Weapons absolutely feels like one of those.
