4. The Princess Diaries 3
Though The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement was released back in 2004, the series' passionate fans have continually campaigned for a threequel, and in 2016 director Garry Marshall confirmed that The Princess Diaries 3 was indeed in the works.
Yet with Marshall passing away the very same year, the project was shelved, even as Anne Hathaway expressed her desire for the third film to be made regardless.
Though Hathaway has continued to champion the film in recent years, little meaningful headway was made until this past July, when she revealed that the sequel had "a story breakthrough," and that the script was heading in the right direction.
In August, Julie Andrews made the not-terribly-surprising announcement that she wouldn't be reprising her role as Clarisse Renaldi, the 90-year-old actress quite understandably declaring herself retired.
All the same, progress forges ahead, and it seems like the film might well go before cameras in short order.
