20 Upcoming Movie Sequels You Had No Idea About

Now, we have to use the term "sequel" rather loosely here, but Guy Ritchie's new Jason Statham-starring action-thriller Viva La Madness is adapted from J. J. Connolly's 2011 novel of the same name, which is itself a sequel to his 2000 crime novel Layer Cake.

Layer Cake was of course adapted into a rather brilliant 2004 film starring Daniel Craig, and in this standalone follow-up, Craig has been swapped out for The Stath in the role of protagonist X.

For obvious reasons - namely that nobody will ever buy Statham in a role previously played by Craig - Viva La Madness has been written without any direct connection to Layer Cake, though in its very DNA it's technically still a sequel to the previous film.

Needless to say, they should make for one hell of a trippy double bill, especially given that Layer Cake ends with Craig's protagonist seemingly being shot dead - counter to the novel's ending where he survives.
