What an Odd Lot! SPIRIT director Frank Miller returns for BUCK ROGERS!

It was way back in May that we reported that Frank Miller was rumoured to be bringing Rogers to the big screen. Readers of a certain age (older than myself, at least!) will no doubt remember the 70's TV show. For everyone else the story, written in 1928 by Philip Nowlan, follows a U.S. military pilot who falls into a coma after being exposed to a gas and wakes up in the 25th century. The production company behind THE SPIRIT, Odd Lot Entertainment, clearly must have their heads stuck in the sand right now. Despite Miller's directorial debut THE SPIRIT being overwhelmingly panned by critics and fans alike, they have given the green light for him to direct BUCK ROGERS. Just incase you were still holding out a little hope that THE SPIRIT might actually be worth seeing... here are a couple more reviews from the trades. The Hollywood Reporter says...

€truly a mess. Fans of "Sin City" and "300" will populate theaters for the film's opening, but boxoffice will fall quickly. The film's campiness might then pull in a different sort of aficionados - those who celebrate films such as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" for their silly acting and overripe dialogue.
Meanwhile Variety also dig the boot in...
plunges into a watery grave early on and spends roughly the next 100 minutes gasping for air. Pushing well past the point of self-parody, Miller has done Will Eisner's pioneering comicstrip no favors by drenching it in the same self-consciously neo-noir monochrome put to much more compelling use in Sin City.
It is said Miller will both write and direct the movie, which is presumably set for a direct to DVD release in 2011. source - AICN, Slashfilm
