Will Avengers: Infinity War Kill Off All The Phase One Superheroes?

1. War Machine

Whereas War Machine looked like the certain death of Civil War, he now looks like the certain survivor of Infinity War. After his near fatal accident, partial paralysis and subsequent slow recovery with exoskeletal leg braces allowing him to walk again, it is unlikely he will be killed off. While Don Cheadle was, similar to Mark Ruffalo for Edward Norton, a replacement for Terrence Howard’s Phase One character he has proved himself to give a nuanced performance as Tony Stark’s loyal friend and established himself as a firm fan favourite.

While we are only treated to the briefest glimpse of War Machine in action in the latest Infinity War trailer, it appears he will have made a full recovery or at the very least adjusted to his exoskeletal enhancements. As a secondary character through and through, he may not be granted as much screen time as the rest of the Avengers but he will prove himself to be a key character that may have to fight to the end when all those around him, including his best friend Tony, have fallen.
