Wonder Woman: 10 Reasons It's Actually Overrated

5. The Third Act Is An Unholy Mess

The first 100 minutes of Wonder Woman are perfectly paced, entertaining, and - above all - tonally even. The film feels light and weighty in equal measure, which is no easy feat for a superhero movie to pull off - all credit to director Patty Jenkins for ensuring a breezy film that still manages to make you think.

But the third act, which kicks in when Diana and Steve attend a party for the German High Command, is messy as hell. Suddenly characters are whizzing all over the place, their intentions unclear, the geography of the locations incomprehensible.

One minute we're at the party, then a cannon fires and Diana rushes back to the French village to find that everyone has been decimated by a toxic gas. Then she turns around and heads back again, though it's never made clear what anybody is trying to do or why the gas was released in the first place. By the time Diana and Steve head over to the next big base, our heads are left spinning.

After that, the movie is near-on destroyed with the revelation that Sir Patrick Morgan is Ares, God of War, which feels shoe-horned in and unnecessary (not to mention that it doesn't really make sense when you think about it). What we're left with in the end, then, is 70% great film, and 30% mindless tosh.
