As potential-rich as a screenlife reimagining of War of the Worlds might be on paper, it's never, ever a good sign when a film spends the better part of five years quietly collecting dust.
Indeed, War of the Worlds 2025 was shot under intense COVID protocols way back in 2020, enough that star Ice Cube wasn't ever on set with any other cast members or even director Rich Lee.
And boy, it sure shows.
Cube's clueless performance smacks of an actor who doesn't really know what they're supposed to be doing, but beyond that, it doesn't do anything remotely interesting with either its screenlife style or the classic central story.
It's instead packed with goofy dialogue, terrible visual effects, and Amazon product placement so egregious it's genuinely shocking to learn it was featured in the film before Amazon acquired it.
We all knew it would be bad, but did anyone expect this to become one of the most critically disdained films of the entire decade so far?
