20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck

How many truly good estate-endorsed musician biopics can you name? That alone ensured that the recent Michael Jackson biopic would be little more than a puddle-deep hagiography which turned coyly away from exploring the musical icon with any nuance.

Now in fairness, the original version of Antoine Fuqua's film did engage with the historic abuse allegations levelled against Jackson - played here with undeniable aplomb by his nephew Jaafar - before the production realised they were legally unable to do so, resulting in masses of shot footage being scrapped.

And so, the end product is basically exactly what most level-headed folk expected - a blandly doting tribute to an undeniable musical genius that has no interest whatsoever in digging into who he was as a human being.

Just as predictably as the film being a parody of itself, though, it absolutely cleaned up at the box office, ensuring a sequel is already in development.
