10. Chloe Moretz Turned Down Jean Grey, Elle Fanning Didn't?
According to reports in November - not long after Bryan Singer announced that casting was underway - both Moretz and Fanning apparently spoke to the director about the possibility of taking on the key role of Jean Grey. At that stage screen tests hadn't been finalised, but a follow up report on the other side of the new year stated quite categorically that Moretz had been offered the part, but had been forced to turn it down because of a shooting clash. Does that then mean that Fanning screen-tested and was over-looked for the Kick-Ass star? Might there be a second chance for the Maleficent star? Would They Have Worked? Moretz has that spark of mischief that could have hinted from an early age that Grey had the capacity to become evil (remember Professor X admitted that he'd worked hard on her as a youngster to help suppress the Phoenix side of her character), and she's proved herself diverse since landing a jarring first body blow with that infamous C-Bomb in Kick-Ass. Fanning meanwhile would appear to be a less edgy choice, though quite how she'd fit filming into her jam-packed schedule is anyone's guess.
