X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer - 8 Major Revelations From Bryan Singer's Q&A
7. The Real Reason Apocalypse Wants To Destroy Humanity
The trailer sheds some light on Apocalypse's grand plan as it quickly becomes apparent that the ancient mutant wants to wipe out humanity and create a new world for his people without prejudice. However, it turns out that the villain's intentions aren't as pure as they may seem, as Singer reveals that he actually has far more selfish reasons for returning and setting out on a quest to put mutants back at the top of the food chain. The truth is that Apocalypse is horrified when he wakes up and discovers that neither man nor mutant has any real interest in worshipping him. "It bears no respect or devotion to him thats the big giant ego of the old God," Singer explains. "All of it lacks symmetry, order and devotion to him. It needs to be culled. It needs to be wiped away and rebuilt again. In other words, Apocalypse wants to reshape the world in his image, something which will obviously require mass genocide thanks to the world no longer being as easily influenced as it was in ancient Egyptian times. Apocalypse's arrival in this world is going to have major ramifications then, but the person it seems who is most going to feel the impact of that is Charles. " idealistic at the beginning of the movie," Singer reveals, "but he gets a big wake-up call when Apocalypse rises."
