X-Men: Dark Phoenix Trailer Reactions - 3 Ups And 7 Downs

6. Downplaying The Space Elements

If you're going to do The Dark Phoenix Saga justice, then you've got to go into space. It forms a huge part of the narrative in the comics, and was something conspicuous by its absence in The Last Stand.

Dark Phoenix IS jetting off into space, but from the looks of the trailer it's only going to be brief, which fits with director Simon Kinberg saying he was reducing the intergalactic elements in order to keep things grounded (and, more likely, to keep the costs down).

It might help add some more drama in the finished product, but it does seem like the space elements are simply being kept to the initial incident that destabilises the adult Jean, and that feels like not just a waste, but a path to yet another incomplete adaptation of the storyline.
