X-Men: Days Of Future Past: 5 New Faces Explained

4. Adan Canto As Roberto Da Costa/Sunspot

Adan Canto as Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot Sunspot is the son of a Brazilian millionaire and an anthropologist. His father constantly pushed him to be the best he could possibly be, both physically and mentally, and he became a star football player at school and was being considered for the Brazilian Olympic team. However during a race-related incident at one of his matches his powers manifested, transforming him into a being of solid black solar energy, causing the crowd to flee, terrified. Sunspot gains his powers by absorbing the sun's energy and uses this to fuel his other superhuman powers. Interestingly, Sunspot started as a somewhat vulnerable character. While in his 'sunspot' form he was very strong and durable, yet he wasn't invulnerable and would constantly be reminded of the fact by other characters. However, after being kidnapped by the super mutant Gideon and subjected to experiments on his mutant gene this has rapidly increased to the point he can now withstand being hit face on by trucks and deflect high-caliber bullets. It's no wonder that some fans have questioned if he has become Marvel's version of Superman, as his number of powers seem to be continuously growing, not to mention the similarities in the mechanism of their powers. To give you an example of how powerful Sunspot has become, he is now able to manipulate stars €“ causing stellar winds and solar flares €“ and wield this energy to fuel his other powers. He is also a millionaire in his own right and skilled at managing his business interests. Sunspot's first appearance was in Marvel Marvel Graphic Novel #14, which introduced five new young mutant's to the Marvel universe including Sunspot.
