X-Men: Fear The Beast - 8 Biggest Takeaways From The Abandoned Movie Script

7. Scott Summers Is Described As The Team's Leader

For all their strong points, Fox’s X-Men movies have never really given Scott Summers/Cyclops his due.

Sidelined in pretty much every film he appears in, reduced to the sappy boyfriend, or generally just not having anything interesting or useful to do, the character has never felt as integral to the film X-Men as he does to the comic-book X-Men. And while Fear The Beast doesn't change that too much, it does at least make an effort to improve Cyclops' standing within the group of heroes.

In the opening Danger Room sequence, the script describes Scott as the team’s “leader”, with the X-Men rallying behind him as they set about fighting the Attack-Bots. He's also the one who opens fire on the Attack-Bots first, and the one who does the most amount of damage, absolutely smashing them with powerful laser blast after powerful laser blast.

While this is the only action scene that Xavier's students get in the movie, it's nice to see Cyclops being given a bit more credit. Characters like Jean Grey and Wolverine have often been the centerpieces of Fox's X-Men movies, with Scott just sort of... there. But Fear The Beast tries to make him the great leader he is in the comics.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
