X-Men Apocalypse: 10 Implications For The X-Men Franchise

5. A Lot Of Romance

Though the X-Men franchise has for the most part kept its gooey romantic subplots fairly low-key (save for the solid Wolverine-Jean-Scott love triangle, and Beast and Mystique's vaguely touching relationship), this looks set to change for future movies.

First of all, there's a fairly shoehorned attempt to make Cyclops and Jean Grey lovers in Apocalypse: it all feels too rushed, and by the time the next movie rolls around, we expect they'll probably be an "item" of some kind.

More natural is the Moira MacTaggert-Charles Xavier romance, which of course spans back two decades to First Class, and after restoring her lost memories at the end of Apocalypse, it's implied that the two will be together.

Granted, Moira and Charles are far more likely to keep their on-screen romance fairly subdued (because they're both professional, dedicated people, and Moira happens to be a fairly minor supporting character), but there's still going to be a lot more love in the air than usual for the X-Men franchise. Whether that's good, bad or invites only indifference, we'll have to wait and see.
