When it was first announced that Marvel and Square Enix were going to team up to create several games about many people's favorite superhero universe, the hype was beyond high. Everyone was more than ready for the best pairing since peanut butter and chocolate.

Then the first gameplay trailers for Marvel's Avengers were released. To say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. And when the game came out, people liked the single-player story and nothing else about the game.

So when it was announced that another Marvel game was coming from Square Enix, no one really cared. But believe it or not true believer, Guardians of the Galaxy was actually way better than the Avengers.

The story was great, the themes hit home for a lot of people by balancing high their humor and some truly emotion-shattering moments. The game was gorgeous to look at, the story was unafraid of going into deep Marvel lore, and you were rewarded for going out and exploring the unique locations of the game. Not to mention the game's combat itself was fluid and quick to learn.

You only got to play as one guardian in comparison to the entire Avengers roster, but you still felt in control of a team and it was full of way more compelling characters. Plus an adorable space Lama. Guardians of the Galaxy's soundtrack alone is worth a purchase, as the game has its own in-universe band that is actually really good.
