10 "Assumed To Fail" Video Games That DESTROYED Expectations

EA is easily the “big bad” of video games. Their rampant monetization, immense pressure on developers, and a highly toxic workplace have made it almost impossible to see the EA logo without shouting “oh god, what did they do now!?”

When EA got access to the Star Wars IP, they quickly remade the classic franchise Battlefront. The first battlefront was flawed but heavily successful.

Then Battlefront 2 was released and EA’s greed was on full display for even non-gamers to worry about, primarily government officials, which is never a good sign.

It was worried EA wouldn’t make anything else with the Star Wars IP besides heavily monetized multiplayer experiences. Or even worse, just sit on the IP until it expired, forcing other video game devs to wait until they could do something with the most popular franchise in the world.

Thus a supposed 3rd person action game set in the Star Wars universe was met with skepticism and expectation for another microtransaction dud.

But to everyone’s surprise, Jedi Fallen Order became one of the best Star Wars games to come out in nearly a decade. Fallen Order was practically a Star Wars version of Dark Souls, but that wasn't a mark against the game.

There was in-depth customization, a lovable crew of ragtag rebels, plenty of fan service, and even some surprising plot twists. The story was interesting, the gameplay and graphics were a bit lacking but still overall quite solid, and Fallen Order quickly became a fan favorite.
