Regis is a hard character to cast, because it's easy to just go straight for an actor with experience playing vampires and call it a day. But he is not your ordinary vampire. While he is definitely a member of the "vampire on a diet" trope, Regis is far more literary, restrained, and soft-spoken than those types of characters usually are. This is why Cillian Murphy, master of the restrained psychopath, would be perfect to play this character.

Murphy has shown throughout his career that he can not only play pure madness unleashed, but he can also play more mellow and straitlaced characters just as believably. The role of Regis would allow him to utilize both sides of his persona and crate a screen version of this vampire who is both terrifying, and utterly likable. Regis is not Edward Cullen, nor is he Dracula - he's a creature somewhere in between.
