1. World of Warcraft
And yet, despite being a far more complex game, World of Warcraft is still the King of addictive video games. Though its subscription base may have peaked at around 13 million a few years ago - other MMOs like Star Wars: The Old Republic have taken a small chunk of its custom - it's still
the game that has enslaved an entire generation of PC gamers. As a recovering addict, I must confess in retrospect that, like most MMOs, the game isn't really about skill at all, but simply in completing monotonous quest after quest to level up, get cooler looking armour and basically feed your rather pointless e-go. Besides, it's not like the game even has a friendly community like other MMOs; so strong is the game's allure that it doesn't matter if the other players are douchebags, or perhaps they're douchebags
because of how addictive the game is - as the South Park episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft" demonstrates, it really can turn you into a hollow shell. Going to a University where the ports the game uses were blocked was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. Are you in recovery? Which games do you find the most addictive?
