7. Super Mario Bros.
The Super Mario Bros. series is one of the most recognisable video game properties of all time, having released dozens of titles and shipped tens of millions of units. The Mario games don't have a big, intricate expanse to explore, but they thrive on one thing - simplicity. These games are ones that just about everyone can play, from the youngest child to the oldest grandparent; they're driven by easy-to-grasp mechanics and don't make you think too much, though the gameplay is still refined enough that it always has you coming back for more. Though it's the platforming titles that Mario is always going to be best-known for, Mario has branched out into sports and racing games over the years, strengthening the brand and ensuring that people don't get bored with the pudgy Italian plumber. What's clear is that whether he's jumping on Goombas, diving over hurdles or skidding over banana peels, Mario games are addictive as Hell. How else could Nintendo justify releasing such similar takes on the same idea time and time again?
