8. Make Diplomacy And Vassals Raise Prestige

The basic premise of the game, for those who have not played it, is to raise your prestige stat. Everything in the game devolves into that motivation. You're not really conquering China to conquer China – you're conquering China because winning a battle and taking an enemy settlement raises your prestige. Only when your prestige is high enough can you actually get the situation necessary to declare yourself Emperor of China and win the game.

Unfortunately the main ways to raise prestige are by defeating and conquering your enemy or building really expensive buildings like palaces and grand administration complexes. But oddly enough you don't get any prestige for having a vassal who also owns said buildings or does well in battle. As a matter of fact, having a vassal can lower your prestige because you might grant them territory that contains a palace.

Diplomacy should have more effect on your prestige. If you get the second most prestigious person on the map to submit to your will, that should give you a boost of a few points to your prestige. To a lesser extent making peace with someone, or acquiring an ally – these should all give a few prestige points. It would increase the validity of a more diplomatic or pacifist play through that some players like to attempt.
