RockstarYou never completed: Tracking down all the collectibles. Remember Crackdown's floating orbs? They were pretty much the first example of collectable objects in a large open-world that were placed in such a way that made them actually enjoyable to go out and get. Crackdown's great physics engine also complimented this perfectly, allowing you to bound between buildings with ease, landing on one icon before springing off to the next within seconds. It's an idea that pretty much every open-world game has taken onboard since then, and yes GTA III did have its own collection of hidden packages but back in 2001 we were all so blown away by everything about that game that it barely even registered. Back to GTA IV though and a game that's helmed by one of the greatest development teams in existence, and what do you get to chase down? Pigeons. Two hundred pigeons. Needless to say with the divisive driving mechanics already putting off the majority from the idea of burning around Liberty City just for the sheer fun of it, NO ONE bothered to track down these flying rats outside of a tiny 3.53%, even though they had little red lights on them to make for easier target practice. With no reward other than just doing so the sake of it, even the most staunch of gamers bowed out at the might of trying to overcome our pigeon overlords.
