1. Final Fantasy VIII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GHCJJXqneU To most gamers in the late 1990's, it was difficult to even consider Square topping Final Fantasy VII. Its combination of rich, complex storytelling and the enormous world made it an instant classic. It's one of the most iconic games ever made, and is incredibly divisive in the community, but while the intro from VII is one of the most well known in all of gaming, the absolutely gorgeous introduction for VIII is above even that. There is a very mysterious quality to it as it opens with some ominous words that paint a very desperate picture. These words are filled with hope and promise for a better future than the characters are currently living. As the pace becomes more intense, the other pieces of the puzzle come into play and we get our first looks at Squall, Rinoa and Seifer, as well as the intrigue that will eventually surround them as the game unfolds. The way each piece is layered - giving you just enough information - is what makes the intro so special, building to a breathtaking crescendo. It's backed by a rousing musical score known as "Liberi Fatali", composed by longtime series veteran Nobuo Uematsu. Meaning "fated children", the piece is a grandiose and thrilling composition, giving the intro the appropriate epic feeling. It's a far cry from the MIDI-style music heard in FF7's intro too, giving it the scale of a motion picture. Everything about this intro is just one tiny element of this incredible game, and puts its hooks into any player lucky enough to play it, making sure their eyes never leave the screen. There's sure to be some great game introductions that are missing. Let us hear what your favourite game intros are in the comments below, and why you enjoy them!
