5. Halo 4

The iconic, yet faceless Spartan armour is acquainted with heroism and nobility. While the climax of Halo 3 left the Chief and Cortana's ultimate fate somewhat ambiguous, Halo 4 springs the good stuff right out of the gate. A distressed Dr. Halsey explains her reasons for creating the Sparan-II program, and she's backed by some pretty impressive visuals. It's fear contrasted with hope as Spartans march through the ashes of war, with Neal Davidge's outstanding musical score giving hope for Master Chief's triumphant return. As Halo 4 was the entry point into the franchise for many players being it was taking place after the previous narrative trilogy had concluded, Halsey's inclusion is a welcome one as she acts as a sort of unofficial narrator. It all builds brilliantly until we rejoin with Cortana, who wakes the Chief up from his sleep. Halo 4's opening sequence sets up the beginning of the Reclaimer saga perfectly, as the player now has numerous questions to ask themselves from here on out. It's a strong opening, planting the focus firmly on the Chief and where the universe would be without him. It reinforces all the ideals of Master Chief expertly, granting the series a second wind as we he head into the next chapters of this new saga.
