3. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KUX-JDchmE If you were one of the numerous people that bought Hideo Kojima's Zone of the Enders, you likely did so because you were promised a demo disc for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Chances are then, that you probably saw Solid Snake dive from the George Washington Bridge onto a taker more times than you can count. Metal Gear is easily the most cinematic gaming franchise ever made. Creator Hideo Kojima is an avid fan of film, and even wanted to be a movie director before he got into games. You can tell that Kojima's love for film translates into his games. MGS2 opens with a stirring credit sequence then jumps straight into a scene that looks like it could have come out of a Hollywood blockbuster. Snake's dive is perfectly scored by composer Harry Gregson-Williams. As he descends towards the tanker below, the stage is set brilliantly by Kojima. All kinds of little questions start to pop up in the mind of the player; everything from Revolver Ocelot's spying on Snake from a helicopter to the true purpose of the tanker itself, and it all blends together in a perfect storm of game and movie-style narratives.
