10 Amazing Video Games That Didn't Deserve To Flop

1. Alan Wake/Alan Wake Remastered

Now this one hurts.

Remedy's Alan Wake is a beloved horror game. Inspired by the works of Stephen King, The Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks, this odd title is about a pulp writer whose latest story (which he doesn't actually remember writing) is coming to life.

Originally envisioned as the next big Xbox exclusive, the game notoriously had a troubled development. Development started on the basis that Alan Wake would be an open world title, before internal reboots scaled that right down to a regular, third-person shooter experience.

Perhaps fitting considering the title's inspirations, while Remedy's game was well received, it wasn't the major smash hit the company nor Microsoft were expecting. Despite receiving DLC, it didn't make enough to justify a sequel, becoming instead a cult classic.

In a case of history repeating itself, an eventual Alan Wake remaster similarly disappointed in the sales. Still, Alan Wake 2 is finally coming in 2023 - let's just hope it isn't the third strike for this excellent franchise.
