Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is another game which features combat that is overshadowed by some of the game's other mechanics.

Platforming is as old as gaming itself, and the original Prince of Persia titles offered plenty of it. Then, when the PS1 came along, we were treated to plenty of adventure-platforming while playing as the iconic Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.

But in 2003, when Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released, one small aspect was added to proceedings which changed the landscape of platforming: time manipulation.

Using his Dagger, the Prince can rewind time, meaning that when you jump from the wrong platform and plummet to your death, a quick rewind gives you the opportunity to try again.

This time manipulation was used to great effect throughout the game. It was necessary to solve puzzles to progress through the story, and it lent the game an air of something new that made it so much more than just another platformer.

It also led to the conception of the Assassin's Creed series, so that's another notch in PoP:TSoT's belt.
