10 Amazing Western Movie Homages In Red Dead Redemption 2
3. First Train Robbery Pays Homage To Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid
Before their time together in the 1973 film The Sting, Paul Newman and Robert Redford co-starred in 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Based on the true stories of Butch Cassidy and his close partner Harry Alonzo Longabaugh, also known as the Sundance Kid, the film follows the two legendary outlaws across multiple robberies. After they are relentlessly persued by the Pinkertons, the pair decide to flee the country to Bolivia, where they continue to live as outlaws and were allegedly gunned down by the Bolivian Army in a shootout.
Rockstar seemed to love the movie so much that they decided to use not just one, but two scenes from the film for the first train robbery in the game's story.
Much like in the film, the player must run across the roof of the carriages in order to get to the front of the train and stop it. Then there is a scene where the Van Der Linde Gang try to convince a group of men held up in a reinforced carriage to forget about their employer and give up their cargo.
It’s a classy way to pay homage to the film while also making the game's train robbery look awesome.
