10 Annoying Characters That Stopped Great Video Games Being Perfect
2. Niko - Grand Theft Auto IV
Many would have you believe that Roman Bellic, cousin and unfortunate inspiration to Grand Theft Auto IV's protagonist is the series' most annoying character of all time. There's certainly a case for this, but in reality you should really know that Roman isn't even the most annoying character in his own game.
In fact, it's protagonist Niko that is forced to take that unwanted accolade. "But how?", I hear you scream, "Niko's journey is fraught and involving, and we learned so much along the way". Well you may think that that's true, but consider the finer points of Niko's struggles in Liberty City before you jump to his defence.
Unlike other GTA protagonists, Niko seems virtually incapable of evolving as a result of any harsh lessons learnt. Instead, he moves through the city from person to person, starting to trust and aid them before inevitably realising that they too will screw him over in search of their own personal gain. Niko's innocence and naivety are cute and admirable at first, but after a while seeing him be regularly fooled by the same tricks starts to feel like an episode of Tom & Jerry.
Just when will this cat learn things aren't all that they seem?
