10 Anticipated Video Games That Have Probably Been Cancelled
2. The Next Deus Ex
Square Enix's general handling of Deus Ex was atrocious - simply atrocious.
Taking what was formerly one of the most beloved and respected action RPGs of all time, then a solid reinvention in 2011 with Human Revolution, Mankind Divided had a crowbarred-in multiplayer-esque Breach Mode and a full pay-to-unlock microtransaction model.
Even worse, as Jim Sterling's investigation proved, Square Enix decided to squeeze every penny out of the franchise, gutting production and selling the first half for full price (the version that released in 2016), with the second half/"trilogy" finale coming at some point in the future.
The only problem with that approach when you're a big triple-A publisher is the game has to deliver sales-wise. Mankind Divided most certainly did not, coming in with less than a third of Human Revolution - and when that was coupled with unanimously negative user reviews chastising an abrupt ending, there's next to no reason Square will ever release another game.
