10 Anticipated Video Games That Have Probably Been Cancelled

3. Mass Effect 5

Mass Effect 5
Bioware

Like Halo, once we saw a change of developers behind the scenes, Mass Effect was doomed.

Yes, Andromeda's team was still Bioware by name, but this was ME3's multiplayer team being allowed to head up development for the first time in their respective careers. Former project lead Casey Hudson and writer Drew Karpyshyn were nowhere to be seen, resulting in a game that was already being squeezed out to capitalise on Mass Effect's fandom through online multiplayer, not being given the time to run smoothly.

Animations, voice acting, tone and general story were abysmal unless you were a diehard Mass Effect fan and could enjoy the same race-related intergalactic politics, leading to EA shelving the franchise "for the foreseeable future" only a few months after launch.

There's also the small matter of Anthem to sit through (the project Casey Hudson and other Mass Effect staffers were moved onto), though even if it turns out well, EA will essentially "replace" Mass Effect anyway and we'll never see the series again.
