There have been many physics-based cycling games made over the last 10 years. From the incredibly polished Joe Danger, through to the bombastic Trials series right through to the horror show that is Guts and Glory. All of them are short, level based experiences designed to be high octane and full of death-defying stunts.

Lonely Mountains: Downhill takes a lot of inspiration from these games, especially in the ways you manoeuvre through the different courses, but has a completely different feel. Gone are the ramps, fireworks and buzzsaws. Gone are the action-movie soundtracks.

What we are left with instead is an incredibly serene environment. The gentle soundtrack gives space for the sounds of nature. Crashes happen but they do not end with bits of you sprayed out over the course. Instead, you can pick yourself up and start again.

Every nook and cranny of Lonely Mountains: Downhill is begging to be explored. The game praises you with better scores when taking the path less travelled and some of these routes feel like a genuine, heart-pounding challenge.

Lonely Mountains: Downhill gives players the adrenaline rush without resorting to gimmicks, flashing lights and chainsaws.
