10 Awesome 2021 Video Games You Missed (So Far)
7. Everhood
Where to even begin with Everhood? Perhaps best described as the baby of Guitar Hero and Undertale, this rhythm-centric RPG revolves around a wooden doll, Red, who sets off on a quest to retrieve their stolen arm.
Plot-wise you're better off going into this thing as cold as possible, but across its six-ish-hour play-time, Everhood is a daring, frequently surprising experience that aggressively defies conventional categorisation.
As an RPG, it's by turns hilariously weird and deeply unsettling - that's the Undertale influence - while combat sees players dodging enemy projectiles on a Guitar Hero-style note highway, and later being able to even fire them back.
If you desire straight-forward, easily digestible storytelling, Everhood might not be the game for you, but if you're willing to dive down its demented rabbithole, you'll be greeted with the year's best RPG not enough people are talking about.
