10 Awesome Apocalyptic Video Games

4. Wasteland

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWH5eSdLpwg Another early example of an apocalyptic video game is Wasteland, an action RPG that takes place during the fallout of a war between the United States and the USSR, which has essentially turned large parts of the world into the titular wasteland. In the US, you're picked to command a group of so-called Desert Rangers, which basically amounts to the meagre remains of the U.S. Army, as they go out on a number of missions such as rescuing distressed survivors, taking out bad guys and also amassing more members of your squad. Not only does the game have you facing off against mutant characters like just about any game set after a nuclear incident, but in this game, the mutants can also wield weapons, making them both more ridiculous and also a lot more menacing. Perhaps the most impressive element is that Wasteland does not offer forgiveness for your mistakes; if team-mates die, there is absolutely no way to rectify this until the game is finished, adding a whole other level of intensity to an already stressful outing.
